Lofty Status at Upmarket Clapham Venue

EM Acoustics were the loudspeakers of choice for installation company Electracoustic for Clapham’s newest upmarket venue, The Loft. The visually stunning interior posed its own set of acoustic problems, not only regarding coverage & dispersion within the venue, but also with regards noise transmission outside the venue.

Electracoustic’s Jon Trotter specified EMS-81 compact passive full-range enclosures for the main bar area, underpinned by an EMS-215 subwoofer. For the seated restaurant area, the unique i-2 compact enclosures were specified, primarily due to their 90 degree x 25 degree coverage pattern and non-aggressive frequency response. For busier nights, The Loft has DJs playing and as such there is also a pair of EMS-81 enclosures as DJ monitors.

Due to the problems of acoustic transmission mentioned above, acoustic consultancy firm Big Sky were called in.

In order to confirm to both consultant and venue owner that EM Acoustics were the ideal choice for the venue, a demonstration to all parties was organised at EM Acoustics’ Surrey factory. EM Acoustics’ Mike Wheeler comments “Doing demonstrations to clients is something we love – when all is said and done, they want to be buying a product that is not only going to do the job, but they like the sound of as well.

Consequently, Richard from Big Sky, Jon from Electracoustic and the venue owner all came down for a morning to the factory to listen through the different boxes and to decide what was going to fit best. Being close to London, with a good space within the factory and a large airfield outside for the larger demos, this kind of thing is very easy to arrange. For a morning’s work, we got our boxes installed into one of London’s hottest new venues – surely that’s worth it?!”
