Autograph Supplies EM Acoustics System to new LAMDA Facility
The London Academy Of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) has just opened its brand new, £28m facility which completely replaces the western part of their campus and more than doubles its overall size. As part of the investment in new facilities, Autograph Sales & Installations were tasked with supplying the performance audio system for the main theatre space.
Originally founded in 1861 as the London Academy of Music, LAMDA is the oldest drama school in the UK and was the first such institution to offer acting tuition. Today it schools around 220 UK and overseas students per year within five validated degree courses and LAMDA’s own range of diploma courses, training future actors, stage managers, technicians, directors and designers. LAMDA alumni enjoy an extraordinarily high post-graduate employment rate, reaching 100% for their management and technical theatre graduates.
The new facility is designed by Níall McLaughlin Architects and was shortlisted for two of the prestigious 2015 New London Awards. Apart from creating a striking new landmark on one of the key western approaches to London, it also contains two theatres, a library, ten training /rehearsal studios, full technical and wardrobe facilities, expanded administration and examination spaces and a new main public entrance for the Academy.
Autograph Sales and Installations supplied an EM Acoustics loudspeaker system for the new Sainsbury Theatre, designed and manufactured in the UK and part of a range of products which Autograph regularly specify for theatrical applications. Comprising two MSE-159 and two EMS-129 full-range enclosures (wall-mounted above and to the sides of the proscenium using EM’s own hardware) and two EMS-118 subwoofers located beneath the seating, the whole system is powered by just two EM Acoustics DQ10 four-channel DSP-equipped advanced system amplifiers.
